1. PROJECT MODULE

1.1. Why are my calculations not updating? Is there a way to run a recalculation of the whole project?

Admins can run recalculations for projects by clicking on the user icon and selecting recalculate. It is possible to run recalculations for a specific project and for all projects.

2. COMPONENTS MODULE

2.1. How complex can the formulas of the components be?

Valispace allows math operations, logical functions and even has some custom formulas designed to meet our users' needs. To find out more about Valispace custom formulas, click here.

2.2. Every time I create a new component, do we have to add all its properties manually again?

No. You can create copies of existing components. Those copies can be connected to the parent component or independent components. To learn how to do this, click here.

2.3. Is there a way to do something like min_of_children() in a vali formula, analogous to the current soc() function?

Yes. Use minoc() and maxoc() to return the minimum and maximum values of children. To find out more about Valispace custom formulas click here.

2.4. What is the proper way to define unitless vali types?

If you would like to create a unitless Valitype, leave the "unit" input blank. This will ensure that the Vali does not have a defined unit.

2.5. Does Valispace have a function to optimize design variables or select components?

Yes. We have a feature called Impact analysis, where you can see the impact of changing one variable on another. We don't have any automatic optimization function yet, but you can use our Python API to build your own if you like.

2.6. Are there any functions that visualize tradeoffs between several components to support decision making?

Yes. Valispace has a feature called "Alternatives" where you can create different options for a specific component. When you select one of them, all calculations will be updated according to your choice and you will be able to see the effects on the system. You can look at the example in the Satellite_valisat project ( Platform>EPS>Battery)

2.7. Is there support for vector or matrix math?

No. This is a feature we don’t have yet in Valispace. We are working on having this in the future, but it will take some time to implement.

2.8. Can we import CAD files to valispace?

Yes. You can also visualize STL and STEP CAD files in Valispace using the CAD Viewer.

2.9. Can I exchange info between different projects?

Yes. Just as you can exchange information between different Modules, you can also do it between different projects in the same workspace.

2.10. Do we have standard models for new projects (with some components already in the system) or do we have to create everything from the scratch?

We have an example model of a satellite that you are free to copy and use as a basis for your project. We also have other example models, such as a valicopter, Rolling stock and car which can be imported to your deployment on demand, feel free to contact us to discuss this further.

3. REQUIREMENTS MODULE

3.1. Is it possible to assign different "components" to different Requirements in a single Specification?

Yes. Valispace allows you to assign components to a Specification but it also allows each Requirement to have specific components assigned to it.

3.2. Is it possible to assign different "Verifications methods" to a given requirement and can I have more than one verification method?

Yes. Valispace allows multiple verification methods in the Requirements Module. If you would like to find out how, click here.

3.3. Can I add more verification methods than the ones we have there?

Yes. You can create your own verification methods on the Project Module. If you wish to learn how to do so, click here.

3.4. Can we import parents and children relationships from an excel file?

No, not from Excel. The default Excel importer for requirements handles Identifier, Text, Rationale, and Title. However, you can use our PythonAPI to import any other relations as well, we would be happy to send you an example file that imports the parents and children relationship of your requirements.

4. ANALYSES MODULE

4.1. How can I create a table related to one topic, like Power Consumption?

In the Analysis and Dashboards, you can create a budget table, and then select the top-level power consumption. This will give you a table of all power consumptions in the component tree. To find out more about creating tables click here.

5. TIME SEQUENCES MODULE

6. SIMULATIONS MODULE

6.1. How can I define a simulation using Matlab in the Simulation Module?

There are two ways of running simulations:

     1) Inside Valispace, in the Simulations Module, where you can use Octave which is very similar to Matlab.

     2) You can use our Matlab Plugin to run your scripts in Matlab with inputs directly from your Valispace database.

7. TESTS MODULE

8. SECURITY AND PERMISSIONS

8.1. Can I have other companies with read-only permissions? Like customers seeing Valispace

Yes. Valispace allows users to have read-only access. If you want to manage permissions, head over to Project Module, Collaborators section.

It is also possible to share some more specific information through the Project Module, on Dashboards, or in the Analyses Module, by sharing the analyses through links.

8.2. Can I prevent users from updating design variables without permission and define a procedure for members to change values?

Yes. Valispace has a full Permission System, so you can set up permissions for each user. To define the procedure for updating values, we suggest using our tagging and history features.

9. SECURITY AND PERMISSIONS

9.1. Can I upload figures generated by Matlab to document tools in Valispace?

Yes. You just have to save the figure as an image and you upload it to Valispace, either an Analysis, a Dashboard, a Component, etc.

9.2. Can I use a Microsoft plugin (Word or Excel) for connecting Valispace even if I use the online version?

Yes. You can use both the Word and Excel Plugins with the online version of Valispace.

9.3. Can I integrate Satsearch and Valispace?

Yes, it is possible to integrate Satsearch and Valispace. On Satsearch, there is a button "Add to Valispace". For many of the components, you can import the components to Valispace and make your own catalog in Valispace.

9.4. Can the push notifications be linked to an email?

Yes. You can set up daily, weekly, or monthly summary emails, in which you will receive a list of all your unread notifications. You can set this up on your Settings page.

10. GENERAL

10.1. Can Valispace be used offline?

Yes. If you have Valispace installed on a local server you can access it on the local network without internet access. On the other hand, if you wish to use the cloud version of Valispace, you must have access to the internet.

10.2. Are there any differences in the performance of functions between cloud version and non-cloud version?

No. There is not a big difference, and the performance in the non-cloud version depends on your own servers and on the hardware you are running Valispace in.

10.3. If I start with an on cloud version, how hard is it to transfer to on-premise?

It's very easy to start with an on cloud version of Valispace and later transfer the data to on-premise. To set up an on-premise deployment you will need a server running Docker. Our DevOps team will then help you install Valispace on your server and transfer the complete database from the cloud to your server. The whole installation and migration process takes just a few hours.

10.4. Can I download my data?

Yes. All data from the Valispace database can be downloaded at any time in JSON format. It is also possible to export tables of Requirements and Test Procedures as CSV or XLSX files.

10.5. Do you offer different packages for each of the modules?

No. Valispace is commercialized as a whole, so when you get a Valispace license you have access to every module and functionality. If you want to know more about available licenses, please check our Pricing Page.

10.6. How is data protection? How often are backups performed?

On our cloud infrastructure database backups are made hourly (24 h), daily (7 days), monthly (12 months), and yearly. For on-premise deployments, we can set up a custom backup frequency on your own servers.

10.7. How do I add or deactivate a user?

To add or deactivate a user you need to have Admin rights. If you have admin rights, you will have the "plus" button visible on the Collaborators page.
To deactivate an user, you need to go to the Collaborators Page and add the Active column, by editing Visible columns. To deactivate, you can uncheck the box of the corresponding user.

10.8. How do I reset my password?

If a user wants to change the password (for security reasons), it is possible to change the password by going to "Profile and Account" and choose "Security" to change the password.

In a user forgets the password, there is no way it can be reset by the user. In this case, the user must get in touch with the admin of the deployment. The admin has to enter the admin panel and reset the password. If you are not aware of who is the admin within your company, email us at support@valispace.com.

10.9. Can the Admin reset another user's password?

Yes, the admin can reset the password through the admin panel. Here is how:
Step 1: Enter the URL "deployment.valispace.com/admin"
Step 2: Go to "Users"
Step 3: Select the "id" of the user you would like to reset the password
Step 4: On the change users, Below password, there is a light blue "this form". Click the "this form" to change the password.
Step 5: Save changes and exit.
Please note: the user will be requested to change the password while logging in for the first time with the new password.
